Biden Pledges Support for Israel Amid Rising Tensions with Hezbollah

President Joe Biden reaffirmed the United States' unwavering commitment to Israel's security in a recent phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Amidst Hezbollah's ongoing missile attacks, President Biden emphasized Israel's right to defend its citizens while also stressing the importance of minimizing civilian casualties, especially in densely populated Beirut.

Joining the call was Vice President Kamala Harris. During the conversation, the President condemned Iran's large-scale ballistic missile attack on Israel and called for collective measures against such aggression. Biden also highlighted the significance of a diplomatic solution to ensure civilian safety on both sides of the Blue Line dividing Lebanon and Israel.

The situation has escalated following Iran's October 1 assault, which marked the height of Iran-Israel tensions with 200 ballistic missiles launched at Israeli sites. Concurrently, Biden and Netanyahu discussed the urgent need to revive diplomacy in Gaza and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.

The President addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the necessity to restore access to northern regions via a corridor from Jordan. The discussion also acknowledged the IDF's recent precision strikes on two key Hezbollah positions in Beirut's Dahieh district. The targets included an intelligence headquarters and a weapons manufacturing site.

In a post on social media platform X, the IDF detailed their targeted strike strategy, citing Hezbollah's use of civilian infrastructure for weapon storage as a major concern. With the conflict marking its first anniversary since Hamas's massive attack on Israel, tensions remain high.
