At the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Sufi Laghari, Executive Director of the Sindhi Foundation, delivered an impassioned plea for immediate UN intervention in Sindh. Citing the principles of the Vienna Declaration, Laghari underscored the urgent needs arising from human rights breaches, governmental corruption, and military-backed injustices in Pakistan.
Laghari further criticized Pakistan's support for fundamentalist entities undermining Sindhi society. He highlighted the brutal murder of Shah Nawaz Kunbhar, which shocked the nation due to its gruesomeness, as a reflection of the deteriorating human rights landscape. Such incidents, along with targeted attacks on journalists like Nasrullah Gadani, spotlight a grave reality for Sindhi voices and minorities.
Expressing apprehensions about census manipulation by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Laghari warned against potential territorial divisions. He concluded with a rallying call for an independence referendum endorsed globally, pledging that Sindhis worldwide will vigorously oppose efforts to divide Sindh. The speech also cast light on broader discrimination issues faced by minorities in Pakistan.
