Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday emphasized the 75-year-old friendship between India and Norway, highlighting their shared democratic values, commitment to human rights, and adherence to the rule of law. In a post shared on X, Kharge remarked, 'India and Norway have enjoyed a cordial and friendly relationship since 1947, united by our common values of democracy, human rights, and rule of law.'

Kharge also expressed his pleasure in engaging with Ine Eriksen Soreide, Chair of the Norwegian Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence. 'I was delighted to interact and exchange views with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Norwegian Parliament, headed by Ms. Ine Eriksen Soreide, and accompanied by Norway's Ambassador to India, Ms. May-Elin Stener,' he stated in his post.

Earlier, Norway's Ambassador to India, May-Elin Stener, welcomed a delegation from the Norwegian Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence to the new Indian Parliament building. She wrote, 'We bring the Norwegian Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence to visit the impressive new Parliament building. Thank you, Minister Kiren Rijiju, for receiving the delegation and sharing insights on Norway-India cooperation.' India and Norway established bilateral relations in February 1947, marked by regular high-level exchanges and cooperation in various sectors. The first-ever state visit by an Indian President to Norway took place in October 2014, paving the way for numerous agreements in areas like earth sciences, culture, and defence.
