A 40-year-old female schoolteacher was allegedly shot and killed in front of her father after she refused a marriage proposal, ARY News reported. The incident occurred in the Jangdara Totalai area of Buner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The suspect opened fire and then fled the scene.

Local police have registered a first information report (FIR) and launched an investigation, as reported by ARY News. According to the victim's father, the suspect had previously attacked his daughter. Despite the incident being reported to police earlier, no action had been taken.

This crime comes amid rising cases of violence across various regions of Pakistan. Similar incidents were reported last June.

In a similar case on June 8, in the Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a female teacher who had a free-will marriage was killed in the name of 'honor.' The 22-year-old woman was dragged from a car and murdered in the Tazagram area. Police collected evidence from the scene and sent the body for medico-legal formalities.

The attackers in that case managed to escape and remain at large. Additionally, on June 4, two sisters who had free-will marriages were killed in the name of 'honor.'

According to the District Police Officer (DPO), the sisters had married men they loved against the wishes of their family. A 'Panchayat' decision brought them back, after which they were killed by their father, brother, and uncle. (ANI)
