Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has given the green light for a new train service journeying from Tambaram to Rameswaram. This service, addressing demands from local communities and routed through Chidambaram, Thiruvarur, and Thiruthirapoondi, is set to enhance regional connectivity in Tamil Nadu.
The commencement of this service on April 6, 2025, aligns with the inauguration of the Pamban Bridge by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai highlighted the significance of the new route, which fulfills a popular request for improved travel access between Chennai and Rameswaram.
Annamalai previously advocated for this service, emphasizing the lack of a train stopping at Thiruvarur and Thiruthirapoondi. Thanks to unprecedented funding for railway enhancements under Vaishnaw's leadership, the state's railway infrastructure is witnessing considerable improvements.
