A series of explosions reported near the O2 arena in Greenwich were confirmed by Newham Police to be part of a controlled filming schedule, posing no threat to the public. 'We are aware of reports of explosions being heard in the vicinity of the O2 in Greenwich. This was part of a pre-planned filming event in the Canning Town E16 area. There is no risk to the public,' police said in a post on X.

However, the London Fire Brigade revealed that the explosions led to a fire in Silvertown. 'The fire in Silvertown followed a controlled explosion at a film set which spread out of control. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire, which is now under control. Crews will remain on scene for the remainder of the evening,' the Brigade posted on X.

In another update, the Fire Brigade confirmed that the fire at an open-air yard in Silvertown was under control. 'One van was destroyed by the fire and most of the cars and lorries were damaged,' they elaborated on social media. Four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, successfully controlling the blaze without any reported injuries.
