The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted an intense spell of rainfall across the Delhi-NCR for the next two hours. The IMD stated that the impact of the rains can cause localized flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and closure of underpasses.

Additionally, the rains can cause a reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall and disruption of traffic, leading to increased travel time, IMD said. 'Entire Delhi is likely to receive a moderate spell with an isolated intense spell during the next 2 hours. Gurugram is also likely to receive light to moderate rain at most places,' read the post by IMD.

The weather department issued an advisory for the public, cautioning them to check for traffic disruptions and avoid traveling to waterlogged areas. 'Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving. Follow any traffic advisories and avoid areas with waterlogging issues. Refrain from staying in vulnerable structures,' stated the IMD.

The national capital woke up to cloudy skies followed by light rainfall on Wednesday morning. The IMD has predicted more rain until Friday and issued a yellow alert for the city.

According to the IMD, a combination of factors is likely to keep Delhi wet, causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Parts of Delhi experienced waterlogging after a spell of rain on September 8. In Mundka, vehicles struggled to move through waterlogged roads, resulting in traffic congestion.

The downpour on September 7 evening provided relief from the humid weather in the national capital. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging in Ajmer, Rajasthan, earlier this week, submerging several areas and worsening traffic congestion.

The IMD has also provided a regional forecast for northwest India. 'Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh; isolated to scattered rainfall over the remaining region during the week,' according to IMD.

'Isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan from September 11 to 13, and Haryana on September 12. Also, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand and Haryana from September 11 to 14, and Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan from September 11 to 15,' it said. (ANI)
