Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a significant conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, focusing on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi, fresh from a recent visit to Ukraine, stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for a durable and peaceful resolution.

The talks with President Putin followed a telephone conversation Modi had with US President Joe Biden the previous day. The Prime Minister briefed Biden on his Ukraine visit, reiterating India's consistent call for dialogue and diplomacy. PM Modi's itinerary included recent visits to Poland and Ukraine.

Both Modi and Putin reviewed the progress on various bilateral issues and discussed ways to strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. They also exchanged perspectives on several regional and global matters of mutual interest.

According to a release from the Prime Minister's Office, the leaders concurred on remaining in touch over the Russia-Ukraine situation. Modi tweeted that he and President Putin shared views on the conflict and measures to bolster their strategic partnership.

PM Modi's visit to Ukraine on August 23 marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the European nation. During a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Modi reiterated India's commitment to peace through dialogue and diplomacy.

Stressing that India has never been neutral, Modi conveyed India's readiness to actively contribute to peace and progress. Since February 2022, Russia and Ukraine have been engaged in a persistent war. (ANI)
