Abu Dhabi [UAE], August 23 (ANI/WAM): Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, participated at the United Nations' Critical Energy Transition Minerals (CETM) Panel held in Nairobi, Kenya. The event saw government representatives, experts, and organizations engage in productive discussions on the development of global guiding principles on critical minerals since its launch in April 2024.

During the most recent meeting, panel members underscored the importance of international cooperation and forming stronger foundations in the mining industry to achieve mutual and collective benefits. Balalaa lauded the panel's outcomes, which align with the urgent necessity to meet the 1.5°C target and global net-zero objectives. He emphasized enhancing sustainable policies to protect local communities from environmental damage associated with mining.

Balalaa highlighted the need for confidence-building to ensure transformational outcomes for mineral-rich countries, fostering economic growth through responsible investment. He further noted the UAE's continuous commitments to climate action via the CETM Panel, green investments, and financial pledges. Announcing its co-hosting of the 2026 UN Water Conference with Senegal, the UAE aims to advance innovative solutions for climate change and sustainability.
