India and Japan Prepare for August 20th 2+2 Strategic Dialogue
The third round of the India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers' Meeting is scheduled for August 20th, 2024, in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed Friday that the third India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers' Meeting will be held on August 20, 2024, in New Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India, while Japanese Defence Minister Minorou Kihara and Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa will represent Japan.
'The third round of the India-Japan 2+2 Foreign-Defence ministers meeting will be held on the 20th of August, 2024, in Delhi,' announced MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a weekly press briefing. Jaiswal emphasized that the event signifies the strong relations between India and Japan.
The first two rounds of the ministerial talks took place in 2019 in New Delhi and in 2022 in Tokyo. According to MEA, this meeting aims to further strengthen relations between the two nations. 'Our relations are at a very high level,' Jaiswal said, noting that the platform boosts all aspects of the bilateral relationship.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar recently commented on the strategic convergence of interests between India and Japan. He highlighted the potential for increased business collaboration and emphasized that both nations must work diligently to enhance their partnership.
Meanwhile, MEA announced that the third edition of the Voice of Global South Summit will be held virtually on August 17, 2024. The event is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas' and aims to gather countries from the Global South to share their perspectives on various issues.
All countries of the Global South have been invited, with detailed participation updates expected tomorrow. 'We have a large number of countries participating,' Jaiswal revealed, 'and will provide further updates regarding the exact number tomorrow.'
