A knife attack targeted a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, northern England, on Monday, leading to the deaths of two children and injuring nine others, according to Merseyside Police reports. Authorities arrested a 17-year-old boy at the scene.

Six of the injured children are in critical condition, along with two adults, noted Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy. She credited the adults for their courage, saying they were attempting to protect the children.

Emergency services declared a 'major incident' at about 11:50 am local time. Counterterrorism Police Northwest are assisting, although the incident is not treated as terror-related, Kennedy added.

Local businessman Colin Parry, who called the police, described the scene as akin to a 'horror movie,' observing the devastation and panic among families. Alder Hey Children's Hospital Trust also reported a 'major incident,' urging parents to approach the emergency department only for urgent cases.

King Charles and Queen Camilla expressed profound shock and extended heartfelt condolences. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed similar sentiments, underscoring national grief and offering commendations to emergency responders.
