Abu Dhabi, UAE, July 27 (ANI/WAM): The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has officially announced that the third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is set for November 16, 2024. The anticipated race spans 150 kilometers, starting in Abu Dhabi and concluding in Al Ain, and offers a total prize pool of AED 2 million. Prominent within the UAE, the event underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to hosting premier cycling competitions and highlights cycling's role in public health.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized the race's appeal to both amateur and professional cyclists. 'The third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo offers a unique experience for cycling aficionados, featuring a route that traverses various regions within Abu Dhabi,' Al Awani stated. Since its 2022 inception, the event has seen significant community engagement, attracting 1,200 participants from 75 nationalities in its 2023 edition.
Al Awani further articulated that the event transcends mere competition, evolving into a celebration of cycling and societal unity. He stressed its objectives of promoting physical fitness, healthy living, and enhancing societal life quality. Launched by the Abu Dhabi Government, the Bike Abu Dhabi initiative aims to consolidate the emirate's global cycling stature by integrating mobility, health, entertainment, and sports. Abu Dhabi's designation as a 'Bike City' by the International Cycling Union in November 2021 reflects its dedication to encouraging cycling as a daily, sustainable, and enjoyable practice.
