The United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) chairman Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri and senior leader Sardar Nasir Aziz Khan asserted on Friday that the accession of Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) holds no legitimacy.

According to the UKPNP, the resolution passed on July 19, 1947, by the Muslim Conference advocating for Kashmir's accession to Pakistan remains highly contentious as the majority regard it as illegitimate. The UKPNP statement read, "The Muslim Conference was not the sole representative party of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Such resolutions and unilateral decisions imposed at gunpoint are unacceptable and have no legitimacy."

The UKPNP also announced a two-day convention in Kotli on August 24 and 25 to discuss developmental issues faced by PoJK. "The convention will address oppressive actions by the Pakistani state and highlight the region's struggles and sacrifices against exploitation," the statement added. It coincides with the 7th Congress of the UKPNP.

The statement noted rising tensions in PoJK, with various societal groups uniting against Pakistan's divisive actions. It observed that workers, farmers, women, youth, and students are all determined to eliminate discrimination, exploitation, and forced division.
