Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will undertake his first official visit abroad to Bhutan from July 19 to 20, 2024, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed in an official release. Misri will have an audience with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck during the trip.
Additionally, he will hold meetings with Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Lyonpo DN Dhungyel, and other senior leaders of the Royal Government of Bhutan. A highlight of the visit will be co-chairing the India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks ('Plan Talks') with Foreign Secretary Pema Choden.
This visit is aligned with the tradition of high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan, emphasizing India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy. Misri, who took over as Foreign Secretary on July 15, was appointed following an endorsement by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and the Ministry of External Affairs.
