The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Emirates Transport have announced a collaborative effort to install and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Emirates Transport buildings. This initiative is part of UAEV's strategy to promote green mobility and aims to boost the share of EVs on UAE roads to 50% by 2050.

Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI and Chairman of UAEV, emphasized the commitment to advancing green transportation by enhancing the national EV charging infrastructure. He stated, 'This collaboration will explore avenues to make public transport more sustainable, including the potential use of hydrogen vehicles and sustainable transportation modes, contributing to the UAE's net-zero goals by 2050.'

Al Olama highlighted that the EV market is witnessing steady growth, with EVs comprising 3% of all vehicles in 2023, and the UAE holding the second-highest EV sales in the Middle East. He projected the installation of 100 EV chargers in 2024 and a total of 1,000 chargers by 2030. Alex Rentier, CEO of Emirates Transport, noted that integrating EV charging stations into the transport network aims to reduce the carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly transportation.
