West Bengal Junior Doctors Suspend Hunger Strike Amid Public Appeals
Junior doctors in West Bengal have ended their hunger strike after weeks of protest over alleged issues within the state's health sector. Despite assurances from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the doctors cited public appeals and the request from the deceased colleague's family as key reasons for halting their protest.

The ongoing tension in West Bengal's health sector saw a partial resolution late Monday evening, as junior doctors concluded their hunger strike. The medics had been protesting systemic issues following an incident at RG Kar Hospital and had commenced a 'fast-unto-death' on October 5.
After discussions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the doctors decided to call off their hunger strike. However, they emphasized that this decision was more influenced by the overwhelming support and appeals from the public and the family of the deceased, rather than government assurances.
Despite halting their 'fast-unto-death', junior doctors plan to continue their fight for justice through alternative means. A mass convention to highlight their unresolved demands is also scheduled for Saturday. The protests stem from a larger debate on 'threat culture' and administrative practices within West Bengal medical institutions.
