South Korean Innovation Soars with 'Palletrone' Drone
Researchers at Seoul National University of Science and Technology have developed a 'Palletrone' drone equipped with flexible rotors for stable flight. It serves as a flying shopping cart over uneven terrain. Its design anticipates human intentions, with potential future applications in various industries, including 'flying taxis'.
Researchers in South Korea have unveiled a groundbreaking transport drone affectionately termed the 'Palletrone'. Developed at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, the drone's flexible rotors offer unprecedented stability, enabling it to function as a 'flying shopping cart' that can navigate uneven terrains, such as stairs.
Designed with a cargo platform atop its multi-rotor body, the 'Palletrone' is guided by human touch, making use of a sophisticated algorthm to maintain balance during flight. The team showcased its potential by moving goods up and down stairs using this intuitive human-robot interaction.
While current iterations support cargo up to 3 kg, the technology holds promise for future applications including 'flying taxis' and drones with mid-air battery swaps, thus foretelling advancements in carrying more substantial payloads and extended drone range.
