In an unprecedented medical achievement, the Kerala Health Department announced the recovery of all 10 patients treated for Amoebic Meningoencephalitis, a rare and lethal brain infection, marking a historic milestone.
Health Minister Veena George revealed that the patients were admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and have now been successfully discharged, citing the state's remarkably low mortality rate of 26% compared to the global rate of 97%.
This success is attributed to prompt diagnosis and effective medication, notably Miltefosine. Swift measures, including a State Rapid Response Team, a medical board, and a specialized SOP, were pivotal. Kerala aims to continue research using a unified health approach to prevent future cases.
