Private sector retail health insurer, Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Ltd, has launched its pioneering insurance policy in Braille, named Special Care Gold. This policy is specifically designed for individuals with 40 percent or more disability, marking a significant move towards inclusive health coverage.

This initiative aims to provide visually-impaired individuals with the information needed to make autonomous decisions regarding their health and finances. Star Health revealed that around 34 million people in India suffer from visual impairments and emphasized its commitment to supporting this marginalized community by offering training and opportunities to become health insurance agents.

Anand Roy, MD and CEO of Star Health Insurance, highlighted that Special Care Gold represents a milestone in delivering equitable health insurance access to all societal segments. Accompanying Roy at the launch was noted industrialist and visually impaired entrepreneur, Srikanth Bolla. The policy, developed in collaboration with the National Association of the Blind, covers essential medical treatments and support services for those with physical or cognitive impairments.
