Breakthrough Blood Test Predicts Effective Weight Loss for Pre-Diabetics

A new study reveals that measuring specific fats in blood serum can predict if weight loss will effectively help pre-diabetic patients manage blood sugar levels. Researchers from the University of Sydney used AI-based lipidomics to analyse serum samples, offering potential personalised treatments for diabetes prevention.

A groundbreaking study has found that measuring certain fats in blood serum could help predict the effectiveness of weight loss in managing blood sugar levels for pre-diabetic patients.

According to researchers at the University of Sydney, various types of lipids in the blood serum significantly impact blood sugar differently, with specific changes linked to fasting blood sugar and others to insulin and insulin resistance.

The findings, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that over half of pre-diabetic individuals do not achieve normal blood sugar levels through diet alone. Using AI-based lipidomics, the study analysed serum samples from 104 participants, revealing that certain fats can forecast which types of blood sugar will improve, potentially revolutionising diabetes prevention and treatment plans.
