Drone logistics firm Skye Air Mobility announced on Monday a partnership with Kottayam-based CARiTAS Hospital & Institute of Health Sciences to deliver essential medical supplies and diagnostic samples via unmanned aerial vehicles.

The collaboration aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and efficiency by reducing delivery times from hours to just 5-7 minutes, the company said. Drones will carry payloads up to 3 kilograms over distances of 10-15 kilometers, connecting CARiTAS Hospital with its five other satellite healthcare facilities in the region.

'Our partnership with CARiTAS Hospital represents a significant step forward in the application of drone technology in healthcare. By establishing an aerial supply chain, we are reducing delivery times, costs, and environmental impact,' said Skye Air Mobility Founder and CEO Ankit Kumar. The first successful drone trial transported vital medicines from CARiTAS Hospital to its satellite facilities.

The drone delivery program is set to undergo further trials with plans for a full-scale rollout across Kottayam district soon, the company added. 'Drones are a game-changer for healthcare in Kottayam, helping us reach patients in remote areas faster and more reliably,' said Binu Kunnath, Director of CARiTAS Hospital.
