Kerala Health Minister Orders Space Audits Amidst Protest Over Doctor's Tragic Death

Following the horrific rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata, the Kerala government has initiated a space audit in medical colleges to enhance safety protocols. State Health Minister Veena George has directed measures such as mock drills, CCTVs, security monitoring, and the implementation of the Code Gray protocol.

In the wake of widespread protests from healthcare workers following the rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata, the Kerala government has mandated a comprehensive space audit to ensure the safety of medical college employees.

State Health Minister Veena George, during a high-level meeting, instructed the Director of Medical Education to implement various safety measures. These include mock drills, the installation of public address systems, CCTVs, enhanced security monitoring, and strict regulation of unauthorized access at night.

Additionally, George emphasized the importance of protecting women employees traveling to hostels after night duty and collaborating with district administrations to safeguard staff and visitors from stray dog attacks. All medical institutions have been urged to adopt the Code Gray protocol to handle aggressive or abusive behavior effectively.
