Mounir Nasraoui, father of Barcelona and Spain star winger Lamine Yamal, is in a 'serious but stable' condition after being stabbed late on Wednesday in a car park in Mataro, Spain, according to Spanish national TV broadcaster TVe.

The regional police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, confirmed the report and told Reuters that three people had been arrested for attempted murder.

Yamal, a 17-year-old soccer prodigy who grew up in Mataro, became the breakout star of the recent Euro 2024, helping Spain win the tournament. TVE reported that Nasraoui was stabbed three times and is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Badalona, Barcelona.

Police are investigating a previous fight as the reason for the incident. Several social media videos show Nasraoui arguing in the Rocafonda neighbourhood, but Reuters has not been able to verify them.
