Nurses at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata staged a protest on Thursday morning against vandalism that took place overnight. The vandalism occurred days after a woman doctor was found dead on the premises.
Unidentified miscreants with sticks, bricks, and rods vandalized the Emergency ward, its nursing station, and the medicine store. Several CCTV cameras were destroyed, and a police vehicle was overturned. The hospital staff immediately began cleaning the damaged areas.
The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, with some officers sustaining injuries. Authorities have increased security outside the hospital, and the investigation into the crime has been transferred to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court.
