A delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday submitted a memorandum to UP Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak, demanding an increase in the stipend of medical interns.
Pathak oversees the Health and Medical Education Department in the Uttar Pradesh government. The ABVP stated that medical interns are not receiving stipends that meet their needs at regional medical institutes and schools, leading students to agitate for a raise. ABVP reiterated their support for this cause, having informed Pathak about the problem on July 17.
During discussions with the ABVP delegation, Pathak assured them that the matter would be taken seriously and a decision made that benefits the students. ABVP State Media Coordinator Abhinav Mishra confirmed this assurance. Rohit Singh, another office-bearer of the RSS' student wing, emphasized the ongoing demand for a standardized stipend for medical interns nationwide. Currently, UP interns receive Rs 12,000, which is insufficient for basic needs. According to ABVP Convenor and medical intern Saurabh Nayak, other states provide an average stipend of Rs 25,000 compared to Rs 12,000 in UP.
