The Gujarat chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has sounded an alarm over the practice of 'mixopathy', which involves blending various medical systems like allopathy with homeopathy and ayurveda. They assert this poses serious risks to public health and have urged lawmakers to deeply consider its ramifications.

This development comes on the heels of initiatives by the state's health department to integrate these practices. A meeting involving government officials and representatives from different medical councils is set for early 2025 to discuss whether Ayurvedic doctors should practice allopathy, according to a letter from the health department.

Strongly opposing this idea, the IMA stressed that mixopathy compromises medical expertise, leading to potential public health issues. They called for focus on strengthening individual medical systems rather than diluting them through amalgamation. The IMA's correspondence with officials implores careful deliberation to safeguard the health of Gujarat's citizens.
