Deceased organ donors and their families are set to receive a shawl, a framed certificate, and flowers at the time of donation, capped at Rs 1,000 per donor, as per an official statement.

The initiative aims to boost awareness and connect more people to organ donation, said Dr Anil Kumar, Director, NOTTO. This is in addition to the current provision of Rs 10,000 for funeral expenses under the National Organ Transplant Programme guidelines.

The Rs 10,000 is provided electronically to the next of kin from both government and private hospitals. Dr Kumar urged states to implement these guidelines and report back within a month.
