The Union Health Ministry, in collaboration with experts, conducted a comprehensive review of Chandipura virus and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) cases in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

Dr. Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, and experts from AIIMS, Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital, and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) participated in the review. The experts concluded that infectious agents are responsible for a minor portion of AES cases nationwide.

A multidisciplinary central team has been deployed to assist Gujarat in further investigating the cases. Chandipura Virus, transmitted by vectors like sand flies and ticks, primarily affects children under 15, with no specific treatment available beyond symptomatic management.
