Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Wednesday, launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress, accusing it of facilitating illegal entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas into India through West Bengal. He stated that 450 km of border fencing remains incomplete due to land acquisition issues posed by the state government.

During the Lok Sabha debate on the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, which was subsequently passed, Shah expressed confidence that the BJP would secure victory in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. He alleged that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were being issued Aadhaar cards in West Bengal, allowing them to settle across India.

Shah criticized the Congress for historical lapses in immigration control, citing previous instances with Assam, and accused the TMC of continuing these failures in West Bengal. He warned against any threat to national security from illegal immigrants and emphasized the need for a strict immigration framework to monitor and protect the nation's borders.
