A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report tabled in the Delhi Assembly by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has spotlighted the operational inefficiencies and financial woes of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), drawing criticism towards the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The report delves into fleet management, revenue generation, and public transport policies, emphasizing areas needing urgent improvement.
Following the report's presentation, BJP MLA Harish Khurana criticized the AAP government for allegedly mismanaging the public transport system, resulting in severe financial setbacks and a declining bus fleet. He noted that, despite AAP's promises of introducing 11,000 new buses between 2013-15, DTC's fleet dwindled from 4,344 in 2015 to 3,937. Khurana accused the former administration of increasing DTC's losses to Rs 8,498.33 crore.
The budget session, running from March 24 to March 28, marks a critical period for the newly elected BJP government, aiming to address financial and policy matters in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Discussions also included the election of members to key committees, underlining a commitment to shaping financial governance effectively.
