Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently found himself in the spotlight following allegations from the Congress unit in Kerala. They accused him of misrepresenting India's energy statistics, particularly the share of non-fossil fuels in the nation's power generation.

The controversy began when Vaishnaw stated that 45 percent of India's power generation capacity comes from non-fossil fuels. The Congress rebuked this, claiming that the majority of power generation still relies on fossil fuels, especially coal.

Clarifying his position, Vaishnaw noted a key difference: power generation capacity is not the same as energy generated. Despite the heated exchange, Vaishnaw highlighted ongoing efforts towards sustainable energy, including the Railways' goal for full electrification by year's end.
