A pilot and two children were found alive after enduring a frigid night on the wing of a partially submerged aircraft that crashed into Alaska's Tustumena Lake. They survived treacherous conditions for about 12 hours before being rescued.
Local Good Samaritan Terry Godes played a crucial role in their rescue. After spotting a call for help on Facebook, he ventured toward the glacier near the lake, where he identified the aircraft wreckage. The three survivors, remarkably responsive and waving atop the wing, were located thanks to Godes' efforts.
The Alaska National Guard conducted the rescue after being alerted by another pilot, Dale Eicher, who provided crucial coordinates. The survivors were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, highlighting the miracles involved in their survival, from avoiding sinking to enduring harsh temperatures.
