On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the tradition of sending a chadar to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, marking the 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The chadar was handed over to Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui, highlighting the Prime Minister's dedication to this longstanding practice.
Kiren Rijiju, via a social media post, expressed that the gesture demonstrates Modi's deep reverence for India's spiritual diversity and its core messages of harmony and compassion. This year marks the 11th time Modi has sent a chadar, a meaningful symbol laid over the shrine of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz.
The Urs festival, commencing on December 28, 2024, sees the Ajmer Sharif Dargah become a pilgrimage site for devotees from around the world. The offering of the chadar stands as a powerful act of devotion and a means to seek blessings, further cementing the Dargah's status as a revered Sufi shrine in India.
