The Odisha government has announced the extension of the deadline for farmers to submit crop damage reports due to unseasonal rains until January 1. This decision comes after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's successful appeal to the central government.
Initially, farmers were required to file their claims by December 29, but this was later extended to December 30. The plea for further extension arose after Majhi and other ministers visited the affected districts, leading to a request to the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment.
The government's move aims to safeguard the interests of farmers facing significant losses. A damage assessment report is expected, and both insured and uninsured farmers, including those under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, will receive assistance for devastated paddy, cotton, and other crops.
