The Chief Electoral Office in Delhi has disclosed the receipt of 82,450 applications for vote deletions and 4.8 lakh new voter registrations since November 29, highlighting ongoing efforts to update electoral rolls. These activities align with the Election Commission of India's directives to ensure the rolls are comprehensive and accurate by January 1, 2025.
During a pre-revision phase running from August 20 to October 18, 2024, Booth Level Officers conducted extensive house-to-house verifications. This initiative aimed to spot unregistered eligible citizens, new voters reaching the age of 18 by October 1, 2025, and to address entries of those who have either relocated or passed away.
The official draft electoral rolls were made public on October 29, 2024, allowing citizens to submit claims and objections—a process concluded by December 24, 2024. Final roll publications are expected on January 6. The CEO Office emphasizes the severe punitive measures for fraudulent applications, underscoring an FIR filed against eight individuals in Okhla for false registrations.
