Shashrang 2024: Reviving Kashmir's Melodic Heritage

The 14th season of the Kashmir Sufi & Folk Music Festival, titled 'Shashrang,' unfolded at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on Monday, attracting distinguished guests and music enthusiasts alike. Organized by the Kashmir Music Club in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, this event aimed to celebrate and preserve the region's rich musical heritage.
Among the attendees were prominent figures like National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather. Speaking to reporters, Speaker Rather praised the program, emphasizing its cultural significance and urging the government to take proactive steps in promoting Kashmiri culture.
Festival organizer Waheed Jeelani expressed the importance of such events in sustaining cultural roots, advocating for their expansion beyond Srinagar to inspire the younger generation. Local artist Masarat reflected on the excitement these performances generate, stressing that they keep the spirit of 'Kashmiriyat' alive amid concerns of cultural dilution. Local participant Faheem voiced the value of cultural motivation for the youth, especially amidst limited opportunities in the region. He emphasized the need for more initiatives like this within Kashmir.
