Assam's Rich Linguistic Heritage Celebrated in Delhi

The seven-day celebration of Assam's linguistic heritage, known as Bhasha Gaurav Saptah, commenced on November 3 and concluded at Assam Bhawan in Delhi. This event honored the Assamese language's prestigious status as a classical language.
According to an official release, participants included several academicians, individuals, students, and organizations such as the All Assamese Students' Association, New Delhi. They applauded the central government's decision to recognize Assamese as a classical language, highlighting how it would spur the language's growth and development.
Some attendees proposed establishing a library in Delhi stocked with Assamese literature. A resolution tracing the language's origins to the 4th Century, while also praising the current Indian government's efforts, was agreed upon. The resolution will be sent to the Prime Minister's Office. The event featured poetry readings and the release of a book, with significant contributors like Joint Secretary Ranadip Kumar Dam, Deputy Resident Commissioner Surjya Kamal Borah, and other key figures in attendance.
