Delhi Battles Dengue Surge: Over 4,500 Cases Reported in 2024

Amid a concerning uptick in dengue cases, Delhi has registered 4,533 instances of the disease and three related fatalities so far this year, according to data from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The Vector-Borne Diseases report revealed that the national capital experienced a total of 9,266 dengue cases and 19 deaths in 2023.

The 2024 figures highlight that November alone has contributed 472 cases, with October seeing a peak of 2,431 cases. Areas including Najafgarh, South Delhi, Shahdara (North), Karol Bagh, and Central Delhi emerged as significant hotspots of the dengue outbreak this year.

The VBD report also noted 728 malaria cases with no deaths and documented 172 chikungunya cases in 2024. Preventative measures have seen 23.61 million homes sprayed, and legal notices issued to over 156,000 addresses for conditions conducive to mosquito proliferation.
