India's coal industry continues to exhibit impressive growth, with the Coal Ministry reporting a 7.4% rise in production to 84.45 million tonnes (MT) in October, up from 78.57 MT the same month last year.
Production from captive sources and other entities increased significantly, reaching 16.59 MT in October, a jump from 11.70 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year. Coal dispatches also saw a sharp uptick, climbing to 82.89 MT from 79.25 MT year-on-year. The ministry noted a notable 36.83% growth in dispatches from captive entities.
The April-October 2024-25 period saw a 6.1% increase in coal production, totaling 537.45 MT, while dispatches rose to 571.39 MT from 541.51 MT the prior year. The government remains dedicated to ensuring a stable coal supply to meet India's energy demands, prioritizing production increases and logistics enhancements.
