Maharashtra Polls: Latur Cracks Down on Firearms
Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, Latur citizens have deposited 668 licensed firearms. There are efforts to collect all 897 firearms in the district. Authorities have registered 23 cases under the Arms Act for illegal possession of weapons. Results will be declared on November 23.

In Latur, a total of 668 licensed firearms have been turned in by citizens as the model code of conduct for the Maharashtra assembly elections is now in effect. This announcement was made by a police official on Friday.
The Latur district has 897 licensed firearms, and efforts continue to collect the remaining weapons, the official added. A total of 23 individuals face charges under the Arms Act for illegal possession of weapons such as pistols, swords, and daggers.
As the region gears up for the November 20 assembly polls, a directive from a joint committee of the collector and superintendent of police instructed all local stations to retrieve licensed firearms from residents. The assembly poll results are set to be announced on November 23.
