In a pointed critique, Jan Suraj leader Prashant Kishor declared on Friday that the Indian government cannot proceed with implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) without first securing the confidence of the Muslim community. His comments came amid growing discussions about the proposed legislation.

Kishor noted that Muslims make up approximately 20% of India's population and stressed that their inclusion in the conversation is crucial. "This is a significant debate. A radical law such as the UCC requires the assurance of those it affects," Kishor told ANI, referencing nationwide protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) as historical precedents.

Pointing to the government's revocation of the controversial farm laws, Kishor suggested it serves as a lesson on the consequences of excluding key stakeholders. "When laws are made without consulting those impacted, such as farmers in this case, the law's repeal becomes inevitable." He urged the government to uphold democratic values by considering the voices of all constituents.
