Railway Police Force Director General Manoj Yadava conducted a review of security and preparations at New Delhi railway station on Thursday, in anticipation of the Diwali and Chhath festivals. Speaking to ANI, he underscored the implementation of preventive measures following an incident at Bandra railway station in Maharashtra, stressing the need for heightened passenger safety.
Yadava emphasized the importance of security, citing a suspicious incident in Delhi that led to increased measures, including the installation of baggage scanners, handheld metal detectors, and random checks by the dog squad for explosives. He also highlighted the role of social media in informing passengers about safety protocols, urging them to avoid carrying firecrackers and similar items.
He noted the responsibility of the railway system to facilitate smooth travel for the working class during the festive season. Detailed planning began two months prior, resulting in the deployment of managers and enhanced communication to ensure order. This year, Indian Railways is operating over 7,250 additional trains from major cities, aiming to meet the surge in demand.
Yadava spoke about the expected challenges over the festive period, particularly on key travel dates. Despite the challenges, he assured the public of the commitment of the entire railway system, including operations and security personnel, to ensure safe and hassle-free travel for every passenger.
Travellers have lauded the arrangements, with one passenger from Bihar expressing gratitude for the organised setup and the smooth travel experience. Other passengers shared similar sentiments, noting the stark improvement compared to previous years, with reports of no chaos or inconvenience at the station.
