The Haryana government has taken decisive action by transferring Jind Superintendent of Police (SP) Sumit Kumar, following allegations of sexual harassment. Ordered on October 30, Kumar now assumes the role of SP/Railways in Ambala, and the government has also approved a wider reshuffle involving 20 IPS and three Haryana Police Services officers.
Rajesh Kumar, previously with the Haryana Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB), will step in as the new SP of Jind. This move comes after a Haryana State Commission for Women hearing, where the Commission, led by Chairperson Renu W Bhatia, discussed the allegations with Kumar and recommended his transfer to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini as a means to ensure an impartial investigation.
The Commission's intervention highlights the serious nature of the claims, initially brought to light through social media and news channels. In their communication to CM Nayab Singh Saini, the Commission noted Sumit Kumar's participation in a hearing before emphasizing the need for an unbiased inquiry, free from the officer's influence.
