In a distressing development, four elephants were discovered dead on Wednesday within the confines of Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Deputy Director PK Verma confirmed the grim finding, revealing that efforts are underway to investigate the deaths, while four other elephants are receiving medical attention.
Verma reported that a team of veterinary doctors is actively treating the injured elephants. This incident occurred near local villages in the reserve's trijunction area. Thirteen elephants were in the affected group, with proactive measures including regular patrols and community involvement through 'Hati Mitra Dal' teams.
Meanwhile, in Assam's Biswanath district, locals stumbled upon another tragic elephant death in a paddy field. Veterinary expert Dr. Kusumbar Dutta suspects an infection, with a post-mortem planned to ascertain the exact cause. These incidents have heightened concern over elephant safety and the presence of wildlife in human-inhabited areas.
