On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assessed the performance of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) at South Block, New Delhi. Singh stressed the critical need for new technology development and indigenisation by DPSUs, acknowledging their significant role in enhancing Armed Forces' preparedness.

The Ministry of Defence revealed that Singh urged DPSUs to allocate resources towards Research and Development, boost exports, and achieve greater indigenisation. He called for an increase in production capacity and product quality, ensuring timely delivery to the Armed Forces. Singh lauded the Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for securing the Maharatna status, marking it as the first DPSU to achieve such an accolade. He motivated other DPSUs to aspire for Maharatna and Navratna distinctions.

Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary of Defence Production, presented an overview of DPSUs, covering financial performance and their efforts in R&D and indigenisation. Concluding the review, DPSUs including HAL, Bharat Electronics Limited, BEML Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, and Goa Shipyard Limited collectively presented dividend cheques totaling Rs 1620 Cr to the Defence Minister.
