Troop disengagement between India and China has commenced at Demchok and Depsang Plains in Eastern Ladakh, according to defense officials. This strategic move follows agreements to pull back military equipment to rear locations, indicating a breakthrough in easing the prolonged standoff between the two nations.
On October 21, India confirmed that it had reached a new arrangement with China regarding patrol duties along the disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC). Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the agreement seeks to re-establish the "ground situation" by adhering to the principles of equal and mutual security, allowing traditional patrolling and grazing rights.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit, emphasized prioritizing border peace. Both leaders acknowledged that the stabilization of their frontiers is crucial not only for bilateral relations but also for maintaining global peace and stability. The border dispute, instigated by Chinese military activities in 2020, had seriously strained ties.
