Punjab is making strides in its paddy procurement as Food Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak announced the lifting of 10 lakh metric tonnes so far this season. The minister highlighted the smooth operation across districts despite early resistance from some rice mill groups.

A total of 5,683 crore rupees has already been directly deposited into farmers' accounts, addressing financial concerns amid reports of slow procurement processes. Out of 5,000 rice mills, 2,522 have been allotted for this season, with more in progress.

The state has successfully procured 34.5 lakh metric tonnes of the season's 38 lakh metric tonne paddy arrivals, emphasizing the government's priority of seamless operations and farmers' peace of mind regarding their produce.
