In a significant crackdown, West Tripura Police have apprehended Rajesh Tripura, the proprietor of the YouTube channel 'Tripura News 8', on charges of forgery and fraud. The arrest, conducted on Friday night in the Tuichakma area, followed allegations that Tripura orchestrated a scam by forging land documents to defraud Himangshu Panchal, Director of World Education Mission in New Delhi, of approximately Rs 9 crore. The complaint was filed in July 2023, leading to a formal case at West Agartala Police Station.

Officer-In-Charge Paritosh Das revealed that Tripura, along with five cohorts, is implicated in a sophisticated scheme involving counterfeit checks to acquire goods like LCD TVs and CCTV cameras, resulting in Rs 10 lakh of unpaid debts. Das detailed that the alarm was raised on July 12 of the previous year by Panchal, who reported the fraudulent sale of land valued at 1.25 crore rupees by six individuals, including Tripura.

Inspector Darling, spearheading the investigation, has already arrested four suspects, with Tripura being the most recent detainee after his court presentation on Saturday, where a remand of five days was requested, granting only three. The case is cataloged under number 2023WAG111 and various sections of the IPC. Efforts to arrest the remaining two suspects continue as authorities dive deeper into uncovering the full scope of the fraud to ensure justice is duly served.
