The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya intercepted a significant smuggling operation involving clothing worth over Rs 12 lakhs at the West Garo Hills border on October 19. Acting on a reliable tip-off, BSF personnel swiftly apprehended the illicit consignment, underscoring the proactive measures in place at the international boundary.

The operation, conducted by 100th Battalion BSF, thwarted the smugglers' attempt to cross the goods into Bangladesh. The miscreants managed to escape, taking advantage of the dense vegetation and rugged terrain, leaving behind the contraband for BSF troops to seize. The confiscated goods were subsequently handed over to the customs authorities for further investigation.

This incident follows the recent apprehension of a Bangladeshi national involved in sugar smuggling by the BSF in the East Khasi Hills district on October 17. With frequent skirmishes along the border, these events highlight the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in curbing cross-border smuggling activities.
