Veteran communist leader and former Chief Minister of Kerala, VS Achuthanandan, celebrated his 101st birthday on Friday. Prominent figures such as Kerala Governor Arif Muhammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan extended heartfelt wishes to the senior CPI (M) leader.
Governor Khan expressed his wishes, hoping Achuthanandan is blessed with good health and happiness on this momentous occasion. Chief Minister Vijayan shared his warm regards in a post on X, lovingly referring to him as 'dear Comrade'.
In addition to them, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, Kerala Ministers V Sivankutty, KN Balagopal, and GR Anil, along with former CPI(M) Politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai and CPI Kerala Secretary Binoy Viswam, visited Achuthanandan's home to pay their respects. Achuthanandan, who entered politics via trade union activities, has been a stalwart of CPI(M), serving in various roles including as the 11th Chief Minister of Kerala.
He has been leader of the opposition thrice, CPI(M) party secretary three times, and a long-serving member of the political bureau. A fierce proponent of communist values, Achuthanandan championed initiatives like land encroachment removal in Munnar during his tenure, despite facing party backlash. His steadfast dedication retains support from grassroots party members.
